I would prefer using the FB method because it's already been done ..This gives site owners more options, which is always a good thing.

Facebook has had for ages a standard for sites to expose a thumbnail and even the embed src for a video:

I don't think more options is always such a good thing. In this case, I would prefer using the FB method because it's already been done (circa 2006) and it's proven. Options aren't bad inherently, however, when you have too many they cease to be helpful.

Thanks! This looks promising too. I'd love for Tweetree (and other sites) to be able to support multiple standards, such as oEmbed, this Facebook sharing standard, as well as the kind of mechanism Dave Winer has described. This gives site owners more options, which is always a good thing.

The thumbs tag is a good idea.
Another great way of embedding content using the the context from a URL is oEmbed : http://www.oembed.com/

It's supported by flickr, viddler, vimeo, hulu and many more. Even youtube, wikipedia and twitter are supported via the "proxy" http://oohembed.com/
